Gnomes - my version of these popular characters

I have to admit, of all the dolls I've created, I think these remain my favorites. To me they have such character, and every one has its own personality. They were a bit different from most of the dolls I had made at this point, since they were so chubby I couldn't make them of solid clay. So their bodies and heads started with a firm ball of tin foil. Adults stand just over 6 inches and kids about 3 inches.

Each doll was made by me, entirely by hand one at a time, using no molds. Hand sculpted of polymer clay, including their faces, hair and facial hair. I use no paint except for a light blush for their cheeks. They are jointed at the hips and shoulders with a strong elastic cord. Their clothes are a mix of fabric and felt, and their caps have a thin strip of sticky tape around the inside of the bottom edge to keep them on their heads. Men all have a little tool belt and ladies have "embroidered" blouses, done with permanent fabric pens.
