In addition to making furniture, Elmer also likes to design houses and buildings. He even designed a few of the buildings on Main Street! This particular model is a nice two bedroom, one bath, starter home, with roomy livingroom, kitchen and separate dining room. A spacious porch finishes off the design.
This home is made of foamcore, which is available at most craft supply stores, art stores and discount stores, for around $2.50 a sheet. This surprisingly durable structure takes about a weekend or less to make. These houses are not intended as playthings for children, but rather for collectors and miniaturists to finish, decorate and populate with all their 1:12 scale miniatures and tiny people. Finished dimensions of house: 27" high x 30" wide x 20" deep.
Once it is assembled, you can finish and decorate your new house almost the same as you would any doll house - inside and out (but do not paint any surfaces, this will cause the walls to bow. Instead, use colored papers or scrapbooking papers to decorate your walls and floors).
This pattern does not include finishing instructions for your house since tastes vary so much for decorating. Finishing materials are available in miniature shops as well as online. I use printed papers & scrapbook papers for wallpaper, flooring & counter tops, scrap foamcore for the cabinets & appliances with beads for drawer pulls, fabric for carpeting, and cut up manilla folders or cardstock for siding.
